GridApp Systems Announces Next-Generation Support for SQL Server 2005
GridApp Systems Announces Next-Generation Support for SQL Server 2005 GridApp Systems, a provider of database automation solutions, has announced its next-generation automation capabilities for the management of SQL Server database environments. "We have always had limited SQL Server support, but this release, Clarity 3.2, really addresses core needs that we see organizations facing with SQL Server today," Matthew Zito, chief scientist at GridApp, told 5 Minute Briefing.
GridApp's Clarity 3.2 database automation software simplifies the administration and management of SQL Server infrastructures - including standardization and policy enforcement - and eases the migration to SQL Server 2005. Through an intuitive graphical user interface, GridApp Clarity turns the manual process of SQL Server administration into a straightforward activity, where policies and standards can be automatically enforced and audited.
"Obviously, Oracle has been our bread and butter platform for a long time," Zito said, adding that GridApp is increasingly seeing organizations "that might be 75 percent Oracle, but that other 25 percent is SQL Server and rapidly growing." According to a recent survey of IOUG members conducted by Unisphere Research and sponsored by Symantec, 70 percent of the respondents indicated that they also had SQL Server running at their sites.
"SQL Server tends to spread a little bit like a weed," said Zito. "It's so easy to deploy and it is perceived to be so easy to manage that people just keep creating new SQL Server databases," said Zito. This has left administrators with the task of managing an ever-increasing number of servers and sparked standardization challenges as each new database must be provisioned, configured, patched and audited in compliance with best practices and company policies, according to the company. Moreover, SQL Server 2005 is much more complex to manage than earlier versions of SQL Server. "People want to migrate on to it as quickly as possible and they are grappling with this standardization, deployment and upgrade process," said Zito. "You can use one vendor, us, to help manage all of your databases, regardless of whether they are Oracle or SQL Server - and soon other database platforms, as well."
