New Technology--GridApp Launches Cross-Platform Database Automation Solution
Database Trends and Applications October 17, 2005
GridApp Systems, a provider of database automation solutions, announced the launch of GridApp Clarity software at Gartner's IT Expo this week. Clarity, according to the company, is the first software solution to focus on automating time-consuming database operations, while offering a single view across heterogeneous database platforms.
Clarity is intended to complement general-purpose data center automation software, providing a best practices approach to cross-platform database management using specialized automation processes for configuration management, patch management, auditing/compliance, replication, and encryption. Clarity transforms the existing database infrastructure into a centrally administered and automated data utility, regardless of whether the platform is Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase or a combination of these databases. "When you talk to the large enterprises and you ask them which database applications they support, the answer is always the same--it's 'what database applications do we not support?'" Rob Gardos, CEO of GridApp Systems, told 5 Minute Briefing.
Regardless of the size or scope of their existing architecture, according to GridApp, companies using Clarity get a unified view into multi-platform database deployments. The solution also enables users to discover and inventory versions and patch levels across the entire database population, track database configuration and design in a central location, and dynamically provision database resources to meet business SLAs. Using Clarity, companies can also clone databases to support testing and rollout of new products, quickly deploy patches to hundreds of databases, automatically repair faults in database operation, and scale database capacity on demand and online. Additionally, Clarity enables the rapid deployment of business continuity and disaster recovery relationships, logs all database access and other activity in a secure format, and provides evidence of regulatory compliance.
"The thing that's interesting about database applications in particular is that they never go away because the data never goes away, so the amount of complexity just continually increases," said Gardos. "And that's the focus of Clarity. It's all about addressing that complexity in a heterogeneous environment." For more information, visit GridApp here.
