GridApp Adds William Clifford And John Stevenson To Its Board

New York -- GridApp Systems Inc., a provider of database infrastructure software and hardware, has added William Clifford and John Stevenson to its board.
Clifford is chief executive and chairman for Aperture Technologies, Inc., a physical infrastructure management firm. He previously served as president and CEO of research firm Gartner Group Inc.
Stevenson is vice president and chief information officer for Sharp Electronics Corp., where he oversees the implementation and management of IT Systems and Services for the Americas Group. Before joining Sharp Electronics in 2003, he served as vice president and CIO for Avaya Inc., a spin-off from Lucent Inc.
Stevenson and Clifford join Chief Executive Robert Gardos, Ascend Venture Group Partner Charles Crockett and Advantage Capital Partners Principal Scott Murphy on the five-member board.
GridApp Vice President of Corporate Development Cathryn Dwyre will hold an observer seat.
The company also said it has named David Maples vice president of business development. Maples worked previously as general manager of DataSynapse, and will work to bolster GridApps' channel and partner relationships.
GridApp's products are designed to allow large enterprises to centrally monitor thousands of databases across various platforms. The company's modular software is also designed to provide monitoring and analysis, auditing and compliance features, centralized encryption of business data and replication and disaster recovery.
The company also provides turnkey database appliance for organizations that need an improved database infrastructure. The appliance combines blade servers, an optimized build of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Clarity to create a fully automated and virtualized database environment.
GridApp released a general availability version of its Clarity software in early 2004, and has more than 20 customers including The Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation, Carnegie Mellon University and VITAS Health Care Corp.
New York-based GridApp raised $5 million in a Series A venture financing from Advantage Capital Partners, Ascend Venture Group and individuals. The company has about 35 employees, and is hiring developers and sales staff.
