Database Automation/Optimization
Managing and tuning database activity to improve performance is a fulltime role for many people in even a medium-sized Data Center. Tools to automatically detect database slowdowns, diagnose inefficient and poorly performing SQL statements, detect and manage assignment of heavy database workloads, test and deploy new database environments and schemas, and monitor and respond to database errors and events save substantial time and money in administration costs, SLA penalties, availability issues, training costs, and more. Without such tools, DBAs must work manually across disparate databases, on hundreds of servers, and Data Center managers face increased burdens in productivity and resource costs.
Key vendors in this discipline include: BMC Software, Compuware, GridApp, IBM/Tivoli, NetIQ, Oracle, Quest, Stratavia, and Veritas (Symantec). Homegrown solutions make up around 10% of all deployed solutions in this discipline.
